Action Research

Even though I am only in my first week of my research class, I have already learned so much about action research. I believe that as a second year teacher I still have so much to learn and expereince to gain. I have already come a long way since walking through my classroom doors for the first time almost two years ago. Conducting an action research on a topic that interests me will allow me to get a better idea of how things are run relating to issues I come across every day in my classroom. One topic in particular that I would like to research on is how we, as a staff and school, reach out to our bilingual or non-English speaking population. I work at a predominantly Hispanic population school and have several students in my own classroom who either do not speak English at all or are at a minimum level. I would like to learn more about the programs we have for this students and their families and I feel that I can be successful in this matter through conducting action research.  Action research will be beneficial to me currently, as a teacher, because it is something I can reflect and build on throughout my teaching career. It will also help me build on my experiences as a future leader or administrator of a school.
